Freeport Fleetwood held their first official Best of British Day on 13th September to celebrate all things British and it certainly encouraged shoppers to flock to the centre, which recorded a 40% increase in footfall across all 45 stores on the following day and a 17% increase in sales.
The British-inspired family day saw the crowds flocking to enjoy patriotic entertainment, food and drinks and John Magee, Centre Manager at Freeport Fleetwood, said: “Our first official Best of British Day brought in new shoppers from as far as Glasgow. The success of the day impacted on the following week’s trading and saw footfall and sales steadily increase throughout the week. The event seemed to remind shoppers of the fabulous range of stores we have here at the centre, especially with all our wonderful autumnal offers, with as much as 60 percent off last the latest looks.”
Lancashire-based X-Factor 2011 finalist Jonjo Kerr, kicked off Best of British celebrations and the crowds enjoyed Made in Liverpool, the official Cavern Club band plus performances by the Scream Theatre School. Hosted by Jordan North and ex Big Brother 9 contestant Luke Marsden, from 97.4 Rock FM, who presented live from the Centre throughout the day.
The Centre was decorated with Union Jack ribbons, bunting, balloons, the iconic BBC test card and giant Fleetwood seagulls and store windows were dressed following the Britannia-theme. Plus celebrations came alive with a host of British icons including a Prince Harry look-a-like, a London Hackney Carriage photo booth, beefeaters guarding the entrance, a Pimm’s cart and of course strawberries and cream.

It's been a pleasure to enjoy this recent Indian Summer as September has so far been a lovely month, but everyone who spends time at the coast knows that the blustery and rainy weather of autumn and winter will be lurking just around the corner - and it's all made that mush easier to cope with if you've got a good selection of suitable clothing to keep you warm and dry!
So you can understand why outdoorsy shoppers in Lancashire flocked to the newly revamped Regatta store at Freeport Fleetwood to stock up in the refreshed store which has new shopping areas, a new footwear wall, and a wider selection of Regatta lines when it opened its doors on 31 August.

We are delighted with how the new store looks, it shows the breadth of our ranges and we can continue to offer our customers some really great deals on Regatta products in a fantastic new shopping environment."

Retailers at Freeport Fleetwood shopping centre have rallied around to donate a range of homewares to equip a temporary home for the injured charity champion, Sue Hayward.
Freeport Fleetwood stores have donated gifts for former Blackpool hotelier, Sue, founder of Children of Watamu, who is now ‘Mama Sue’ to 85 orphaned, abandoned, or neglected kids at her Happy House children’s home on the Indian ocean coast of Kenya.
Sue and her husband, Dave, have been forced to return to the UK for urgent medical treatment after fracturing her leg in five places. The charity’s UK voluntary organiser, Elizabeth Gomm, contacted the shopping centre for help whilst trying to find, furnish and equip a ground floor flat within a week.
Freeport Fleetwood has close connections with the Children of Watamu charity and Centre Manager, John Magee, sponsors Kennedy, a Danwata scholarship student aged 14 years old.
Stores at Freeport Fleetwood donated many items including furniture, electricals and cleaning products from Care Facilities Management, the centre’s cleaning contractor, candles from Hallmark, bedding and curtains from Rectella, cushions from Room, kitchen utensils from Pro Cook and home wares from Home Bargains. The centre also donated a £100 gift card.
John Magee, Centre Manager at Freeport Fleetwood, said: “As a centre we are committed to helping the Kenyan charity, the Children of Watamu. When Elizabeth got in touch and asked if we could help Sue settle into the UK whilst having treatment, I knew all our generous retailers would help.
“The charity is responsible for so much meaningful work in Kenya. They opened the Happy House giving a home and family to a growing number of children who have suffered from dire poverty, neglect, loss or abuse.”
Elizabeth Gomm, Happy House UK organiser , said: “Freeport Fleetwood has been incredibly generous and fully kitted out Sue’s flat in the space of a week. We’re very grateful for their support and hope Sue’s treatment is speedy and she gets back to our Happy House family and continues her inspirational work.”

On the last Bank Holiday Monday at the beginning of May, McDonald's at Freeport Fleetwood set a new northern region drive-thru record - with your help!
The Harbour Village eatery went to head-to-head with McDonald’s branches across the country in an attempt to set a new National Drive Thru Record. The restaurant was aiming to serve more vehicles in one hour than any other in the country, during a double record attempt from 12pm on Monday 5 May, and to help their cause they were giving away free McChicken sandwiches to people who took part.
Adam Curnow, Business Manager at McDonald’s, said: “The restaurant normally serves 130 cars per hour at weekends so we’re going to have our work cut out during the record challenge.
"The team didn't manage to break the existing national record of 232, but they set a new record for the Northern region of 206 served in an hour. They served 183 in their second hour/attempt. The previous record stood at 148 so we're really pleased with our success!"

In addition to the generous discounts of up to 60% off, available on the wide selection of quality dried fruits, seeds and home baking products in the new store, there is also a range of old-fashioned sweets and confectionary.

The latest Fleetwood store has created four new jobs for the area.
The man behind the project, entrepreneur Nick Shutts, launched the Julian Graves chain and built it into a brand with 350 shops across the UK.
Nick said: “It’s great to be back. Many of our old team have come together again and it is exhilarating to be back in business.
“Given our experience in the past and the reaction we are getting to the new stores we are convinced that we are meeting a real gap in the market.”
