New Stores at Houndshill Shopping Centre
2022 saw a few changes at Blackpool’s shopping centre. Muffin Break – a brand new cafe opened in the centre of the mall – and a brand new Skechers shoe shop is now open too.
The big an announcement we’ve been waiting for, about the empty Debenhams store, has been made. We now know that Frasers Group is taking over the store. Workmen are in the store, beginning the long job of stripping and refitting it.
And of course the new extension is steaming along at Coronation Street – which will be home to a new Wilko store along with Backlot Cinema.
This new shop opened on Friday 26 August 2022 in time for the Bank Holiday weekend. Find them opposite River Island and Next where the large, bright Muffin break coffee shop is well stocked with loads of goodies!
Choose from a good selection of hot and cold sandwiches and savoury treats and plenty of drinks. And then, of course, the cake. Goodness me they all look delightful, which one will you choose?
New Skechers – Now Open!
Quick Guide to Houndshill Shopping Centre
Houndshill Shopping Centre is just a stone’s throw from Blackpool seafront – right at the heart of the town centre – near to Blackpool Tower.
Find it sandwiched between Blackpool Winter Gardens and Bank Hey Street (where the back door of Blackpool Tower is).
In the next photo it’s the whole building along the left of the shot. The sea is straight ahead!
Access to the Houndshill is from Victoria Street (above), Coronation Street and Adelaide Street (below). You can also go through Primark too.
A big, pay on exit, multi-storey car park is incorporated into the complex. The car park is also open outside shopping hours – so you can park here and take in a show or have a meal.
Access to the car park once the stores and main malls have closed is via the side door. It’s at the right hand side of the external New Look entrance, opposite the Winter Gardens and behind the small surface car park near the Houndshill access ramp.
Monday to Saturday – 9am to 5.30pm
Sunday – 10.30am to 4.30pm
Bank Holidays – 9am to 5.30pm
Designed for your Comfort
Inside, the shopping is all on one flat level with even tiled floors, so it’s perfect for pushchairs and wheelchairs.
As you’d expect from a purpose built space, your comfort and convenience is the most important thing. There are comfortable seats where you can rest your feet while you plan your next shopping adventure. It’s ideal for anyone who isn’t too fit and healthy.
Upstairs (up the escalator) you’ll find the public toilets.
It’s also a great place to visit when the weather is poor. With everything undercover you won’t get wet on rainy days. The modern, bright and light mall is perfect for passing an enjoyable afternoon – whatever the weather!
High Street Names and Independent Traders
The indoor mall has over 60 units, featuring high street names and independent traders. Sadly Debenhams closed in April 2021 – but watch this space as Frasers Group is set to move into the store! You can still enjoy the huge Primark store, Next, River Island and many more.

Houndshill Shopping Centre in Lights!
Houndshill Shopping Centre has been pleased to support Blackpool Illuminations for several years. You might remember that Houndshill sponsored Alice’s Garden tableau, located at North Shore.
In 2018 it was centre stage on Blackpool central promenade near Tower Festival Headland, with a brand new over-the-road installation. Did you see it?
And here’s a close-up of the new Illuminations, at Lightworks depot before installation.
