Whatever you’re looking for you can find it in Blackpool Town Centre – there’s everything here that you’d expect from a great town centre destination.

The great thing about Blackpool Town Centre is that it’s got it all. Make it a part of your day out or holiday – a look round the shops, a bite to eat, a walk on the prom, fun and entertainment – all in close proximity and easy walking distance for a great day out for all the family.

Blackpool Town Centre, shopping by the sea

Blackpool Town Centre is managed by Blackpool BID - creating a cleaner, safer and inviting town centre with something for everyone - shopping and markets, entertainment, food and drink.

Blackpool Houndshill Shopping Centre
Blackpool Houndshill Shopping Centre

Enjoy the new indoor malls of the Hounds Hill Shopping Centre with national names including Debenhams, Next, New Look, H&M and more besides, all under cover in bright and spacious surroundings - with all the facilities that today’s modern shopper expects - including cafes, toilets, car parking and baby changing.

Head outside into the sunshine and sea air and in the streets immediately next to the Hounds Hill and in the shadow of the mighty Blackpool Tower you’ll find many other big high street names, including Marks and Spencer, BHS, WH Smith, TK Maxx, a spectacular Primark on four floors - and similar national chains.

Get beyond the very centre of town and there are plenty of independent retailers to explore, with some really nice products to find – including of course all kinds of women’s, men’s and children’s fashions, but also hairdressers, nail bars, cafes and food shops, solicitors and pet shops – and the Co-op – a handy supermarket right in the centre of town on Birley Street, where you can stock up on provisions.

Just across the road from Birley Street is Abingdon Street Market – a traditional market and long standing part of Blackpool’s retail landscape - with independent fruit and veg stalls, bakeries, cheese and dairy, home cooked meats to make your mouth water, and more.

The good thing about Blackpool is that it’s actually quite a compact place, so you’re not too affected by the inclement British weather! Unlike some cities and town centres where you can walk for miles just getting from place to place, here in Blackpool you can spend most of your time and energy actually inside and finding whatever it is you came for – without getting a drowning from the weather!

Blackpool Town Centre is also a great place for leisure too so if you’re not a great shopper but like the atmosphere of a busy place to spend your free time, then there are plenty of restaurants, pavement cafes and bars where you can meet a friend for a drink and a bite to eat.

Try the ever popular Nando’s and Pizza Express – or maybe one of the Taste of Lancashire assured independent restaurants are more your thing. If you prefer a quick bite to eat, you’re spoilt for choice with coffee shops and cafes.

Why not head to Birley Street – a pedestrianised area where you’ll find Brilliance - with the huge overhead steel structures that play music and light shows and in season link the Illuminations to the town centre. Even in the daytime it’s an experience and somewhere to sit awhile and just take in the sights and sounds, but at night it comes to life!

A short stroll away from Birley Street and past the newly renovated front of Abingdon Street Market, St John’s Square is a really nice open public space right in the heart of town, and where you’ll often find things happening including the Chilli Festival, and lots of fun things.

St John’s Square is another pedestrianised space so it’s perfectly safe for your little ones to run about and dodge the dancing water that fountains out of the ground in front of the church, and where you can sit a while in the sunshine with a coffee and a cake at one of the many cafes. As you pass through St John’s Square, you’ll see the diving sculpture and see how the light catches it at different times of the day and year.

Of course Blackpool Town Centre is also where you’ll find the Winter Gardens, The Grand Theatre and Blackpool Tower – a world of entertainment and leisure to suit everyone, with West End shows, comedy, drama and places with dazzling nightlife are all here just waiting to be enjoyed.

Come and enjoy Blackpool Town Centre – it’s got it all!

Stephen Pierre and Guest Musicians in Blackpool

Stephen Pierre (above left) says "I will be back in Blackpool this forthcoming Saturday ( 23rd September ) between 11am - 4pm to perform my last outdoor gig in St John's Square this summer for Trinity Hospice.

"Over the past 3 summers we have proudly raised in excess of £12,000 for Trinity Hospice. Live music presented in St John's Square is a creative - positive for Blackpool. It gives the town a cultured Metropolitan Vibe.

"My personal thanks to ALL the musicians who have volunteered their time and supported these enjoyable events. Also thanks for the co-operation shown from Blackpool BID and the businesses located around St John's/Cedar Square. Their cups of coffee and sandwiches for the team have been greatly appreciated.

"Fortunately this year we have not been 'hit' by the seagulls, pigeons or parking attendants!"

Blackpool BID - A Better Town Centre for Everyone

The latest update from Blackpool BID - creating a cleaner, safer and inviting town centre with something for everyone - shopping and markets, entertainment, food and drink.

Blackpool BID

Tackling anti-social behaviour

Over the last few months the BID has been heavily involved in a multi-agency operation to tackle antisocial behaviour and public nuisance issues in the town centre, mainly caused by beggars, spice users and street drinkers - a problem not just isolated to Blackpool town centre but prevalent in town centres throughout the UK.

This operation is still ongoing and we are working with the Police, Trading Standards, Housing Options and the drug and alcohol service. Although legally the process is quite slow, we are pleased to report the following actions have been taken:

 48 individual Community Protection Warnings issued  17 of these have now progressed to Community Protection Notices –which can be formally acted upon  Currently there are 8 Criminal Behaviour Orders in force in the town centre, the majority of which have come through this operation  5 court cases scheduled already for July & August which hopefully will result in more CBOs  During the last 12 months the Wardens have dealt with 790 public nuisance incidents.

Our new Shopwatch App and digital reporting system is proving very successful with our members. If you are interested in learning more about the Shopwatch Scheme please get in touch to find out how, for as little as £1 per day, you can substantially improve the security of your retail outlet.

Keeping an eye on your town centre

Blackpool BID currently employ two wardens and they have recently been issued with bikes to enable a speedier response across the BID area. The BID will shortly be recruiting additional wardens to increase the number of days and hours that the town centre area can be covered.

The CCTV system was recently reintroduced in Blackpool and the BID has agreed to support the continuance of the service to the same level for another two years. There has been some significant crime prevention and arrests since its reinstatement.

To help to improve safety and security for the night time economy, the BID will support the continuance of the Safe Haven Bus on Talbot Square. The service was in danger of closure due to a funding shortfall and, as it provides an valuable service the BID are happy to show its support for a 12 month period. The BID are also providing a Radio Link handset for use by the taxi service in the town centre in the hope that it will limit the risk to individual drivers.

Blackpool BID employ two seasonal cleaners who concentrate on keeping the Promenade free from litter. They work Fridays to Mondays during the afternoon and evenings, and make quite an impact.

Bank Hey Street in Blackpool town centre

Our full time town centre cleaner is, as always, helping businesses deal with the detritus and rubbish that accumulates around their properties. During 2016 we can report that:

 Cleaned 1607 entrances to businesses  Cleaned all vacant property windows on a weekly basis  Removed approximately 4 tonnes of rubbish and fly-tipped goods  Removed 49 instances of graffiti  Cleaned phone boxes and adjacent areas a total of 151 times  Removed needles and drug paraphernalia to keep the town safe

As is usual, the town is suffering from Seagull attacks and the BID have arranged for bird scarers to be provided to the cafe quarter on Birley Street in the hope they will deter the pesky critters!! We'd also ask that people are mindful of where they eat takeaway food and please don't feed the seagulls as it encourages them to beg for food, and steal it!
