Blackpool Firework Championships - extra date added

Blackpool is to get an extra firework display after organisers were forced to cancel last week’s event due to adverse weather.

Blackpool is to get an extra firework display after organisers were forced to cancel last week’s event due to adverse weather.

Last Friday (Sept 14th) should have seen French team Brezac Artifices dazzling the crowds and setting the skies ablaze in the World Fireworks Championships.

Unfortunately high winds forced organisers to cancel the event but it has now been announced that Sunday 30th September has been added to this year’s competition.

The planned programme will now operate with Howard & Sons Fireworks from Australia taking centre stage on Friday 21st September, Brezac Artifices revealing their stunning French display on Friday 28th September and the additional date of Sunday 30th will see British Pyrotechnical experts Kimbolton Fireworks marking the close of the competition with a celebratory performance during which the winner will be announced.

Up to 100,000 visit Blackpool each week to watch the amazing master blasters light up the skies with jaw-dropping displays.

And event organisers Marketing Blackpool are delighted to add an extra date to the calendar.

Managing Director Natalie Wyatt said: “I am very pleased we are able to make this announcement. It is very disappointing when you have to cancel any event but ultimately the health and safety of organisers and spectators is always our main concern and it would not have been safe to hold this event in last week’s high winds.

“We have held a number of discussions with all the agencies involved in the planning of this large scale event and feel it is only fair that Blackpool’s residents, businesses and our many thousands of visitors do get this additional night of fireworks.”

Blackpool Council has provided assistance to enable an extra date to be added to the event.

Councillor Graham Cain, Cabinet member for Tourism and Culture, added: “I am delighted we are to get an extra night of fireworks.

“The World Championships is a huge event in Blackpool’s calendar and businesses and hoteliers alike will benefit from the extra revenue that will come into the town because of this.”

The Illuminations light up the promenade, and the Fireworks will light up the sky high above Blackpool, as once more the Fireworks Championships are held in the seaside resort.

BOOM, BANG, WHOOSH! The sound can be heard and the display seen for miles around, as each of the evenings kicks off with the fireworks at 8.30pm.

The event is held centrally on Blackpool promenade on Tower Festival Headland, with great views to be had from central and north pier.

All along the seafront of the Fylde Coast, subject to exactly where you are on the slight inwards and outwards undulation, the streams and sparkles can be seen high in the air, bringing people outside onto the seafront and balconies to watch, as far away as Cleveleys seafront.

The event brings the best of the worlds firework experts together and is another great free event from the north west seaside town.

If you live locally it's a great chance to come into town in the evening and enjoy a stroll in the still warm evening air before autumn sets in, and a bag of chips with a wooden fork - they taste so much better that way!

If you fancy visiting Blackpool for a short stay why don't you make the Fireworks Championships the weekend when you come to visit? There's so much to see and do, whatever the weather, you can be sure of a great time.

Build-up for the Fireworks will start from approx. 7.30pm on each of the evenings, with the fireworks themselves from 8.30pm. All displays are of course subject to suitable weather.
