Blackpool is a historic sanctuary?
During WW2, Blackpool offered safe spaces for LGBTQ+ people and their families. These venues became sanctuaries, free from persecution, prejudice and hate. It contributed to the beginning of Blackpool’s reputation as an inclusive place.

Blackpool has a strong Drag Culture and identity?
Blackpool’s drag culture thrived in the 1960’s and 70’s – and still does today. Elaborate costumes and captivating performances were central to their identity. This helped cement Blackpool’s reputation as a hub of queer expression and freedom.

Blackpool Pride is seen as one of the most exclusive events in the UK?
The towns first Pride event was held in 2006 and it’s only gotten bigger and better since then! It features an iconic parade, live music and a variety of performances. There’s also an amazing Youth Pride for under 18’s with stalls, events and performances too.

Blackpool is still fighting for equality and awareness!
Blackpool has just celebrated the start of the ‘Be Who You Want to Be’ initiative. Many organisations in Blackpool offer various deals and events during LGBTQ+ History Month. Groups like URPotential and the Washington Group welcome people to join and help with their LGBTQ+ Support.

  1. I am living in Blackpool and been too the Gay pride parade before but I would like too know how can I take part in the parade I would love too do that and show my support.I have done two charity walks since I have lived here please let me take part in the parade

  2. It’s the day before the parade and, as a photographer who enjoys photographing people having a good time, I have no clue as to the exact route of the parade. Bring back the old website – at least it told the whole story.

    1. Hi Simon, to the very best of my knowledge, the parade runs from the Sandcastle along to the prom to the North Pier. It’s a new organising team this year (not us of course) and I’m sure they will get their website online in due course. I assume you don’t mean bring back the old Live Blackpool website – as that would have told you exactly the same information!
