Covid played havoc with everything, but the Winter Gardens has been fabulous again, since reopening in May 2021. We went for a look behind the scenes a few days before re-opening, to see how preparations were going –
Visit popular Mazzei Café – packages including Afternoon tea are available to pre-book on the venue’s website. The Old Victoria Bar, formally Gillow’s, features live entertainment throughout the day. Enjoy a wide selection of drinks and classic pub food.
The Box Office counter service at Church Street is where you can book in person. It’s open daily from 11am – 3pm. Don’t forget to get your theatre programme too – bet you’ve no idea how interesting their past is!

The 102nd British Open Spring Festival Championships – Sat 11 May at 8am
The British Open Spring Festival Championships are one of the most important series of competitions in the brass banding world.
60 bands and over 1500 performers from all parts of the UK come to the Winter Gardens to be tested on wonderful music, providing passion and virtuosity in friendly, inclusive rivalry. The three levels of competition see the bands battle for promotion, with the ultimate prize to gain qualification to the world famous British Open Championships in Birmingham in September.
The Elvis Tribute Artist World Tour – Mon 13 May at 7.30pm
Direct from the USA, the world’s biggest, best and most successful Elvis tribute show returns to the UK. Starring three winners of Elvis Presley Enterprises’ Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest including the Winner of BBC One’s The World’s Greatest Elvis – Shawn Klush (USA), Dean Z (USA) and Ben Thompson (UK).

Blackpool Dance Festival – 18-31 May
The Blackpool Dance Festival began in 1920 in the Empress Ballroom at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
Covering a period of thirteen days, the May Blackpool Dance Festival is by far the largest of the five festivals held in Blackpool. The Festival covers Ballroom and Latin American dancing, incorporating the British Open Championships for Adult Amateur and Professional couples, plus Formation Teams. Almost 60 countries represented, and just short of 3000 entries in the 13 events!

John Lydon – Sun 2 June at 7.30pm
He’s a legend and an icon, a revolutionary and an immortal. John Lydon – aka Johnny Rotten – changed the face of music and sparked a cultural revolution. The frontman and lyricist of the Sex Pistols and Public Image Ltd (PiL) caused a political earthquake and transformed music for good. In his spoken word show, I Could Be Wrong, I Could Be Right, Lydon is touring the UK. He will talk about how he sees life, along with his unique and extraordinary career, and take audience questions during a pyrotechnic, one-off tour. VIP meet’n’greet packages are available.
In The Night Garden Live – Fri & Sat 7 & 8 June at 10am, 1 & 4pm
Igglepiggle, Upsy Daisy, Makka Pakka and friends are back in their fun-filled live show Igglepiggle’s Busy Day! Join Igglepiggle as he looks for his friends in the Night Garden by following their funny sounds until he finds them all! You’ll see all your favourite characters beautifully brought to life with full-size costumes, magical puppets, and enchanting music. This show lasts just under an hour and your little ones will be amazed when they see a very special visit from the amazing flying Pinky Ponk.

And Finally… Phil Collins are credited as being the UK’s Top Phil Collins Tribute, fronted by singer Chris O’Connell who brings to the stage the charisma and characteristics of the man who fronted Genesis and has sold 150 million albums in his solo career. It’s a two hour high energy show packed full of Phil’s solo hits including ‘In The Air Tonight’, ‘Another Day In Paradise’ and ‘Sussudio’ along with a sprinkling of Genesis hits for good measure.

Blackpool International Soul Festival 7 – 21-23 June
The 7th Blackpool International Soul Festival takes place over the weekend of June 21st-23rd 2024 at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. It’s the amazing 3-day, 7-room weekender!
Conceived in 2016, since then the festival has attracted many Northern Soul superstars from America, including Patti Austin, The Impressions, Little Anthony, Eddie Holman and Dee Dee Sharp. Known for revolutionising the Motown sound, The Temptations brought lyrical depth and an abundance of instrumental content. The Opera House
New, upcoming bands have played in the Opera House including the like of Little Mix. Old favourites, such as Jane McDonald and Daniel O’Donnell continue to return. Some of the world’s best bands, including Canada’s Arcade Fire, who selected the Winter Gardens as only one of three venues to play in the UK.
The Empress Ballroom
The magnificent Empress Ballroom is just as comfortable staging the World Dance Championships each year as it is hosting some of the world’s best rock and pop acts in concert.

The Winter Gardens is an incredible building with a long history. It first opened on 11 July 1878 and since then has grown and developed as an entertainment complex which mirrors the growth of the seaside town of Blackpool.
In the centre of the complex, in what’s now the coffee shop, you can see the original building around which the whole of the Winter Gardens was built.
Blackpool Winter Gardens – A Perfect Venue for your Event
The Winter Gardens offers a wide variety of venues for events ranging from small private business lunches to large scale conferences.
You can also hold your wedding at the Winter Gardens. What could be better than a reception or banquet in the recently refurbished Derham Room? (below).
The main rooms include the 2,900 capacity Opera House (the largest theatre stage outside London), the grand Empress Ballroom with a capacity of 3,250 people for concerts, and the 2,600 sq metre Olympia Exhibition Hall.
Remember Illuminasia at Blackpool Winter Gardens?
Illuminasia was the indoor Illuminations attraction inside the Winter Gardens.
Always designed to be temporary, the doors finally closed on Sunday 29 October 2017.
