New at Houndshill Shopping Centre
There’s been more than a few changes at Blackpool’s shopping centre.
Bowling Alley Plans
If plans released in October 2025 are successful, Blackpool could see a new entertainment venue opening in the Houndshill Shopping Centre.
The ground floor unit, purpose-built for Wilko, has been empty since the extension and Backlot Cinema were completed. Now, entertainment operator Gutterball is talking to Blackpool Council about their plans for the space.
They’re primarily bowling alley operators but are also seeking permission to host other events. They’ve applied for premises and alcohol licenses. Some of their other new sites across the UK include other leisure facilities including karaoke, arcades, pool tables and roller rinks. Watch this space to find out exactly what their plans are for Blackpool.
Backlot IMAX – now Arc Cinema
More keen on looking to the future? You’ll LOVE the next chapter in the history of the Houndshill! Outside, the new extension is now complete at Coronation Street. It will be home to another new large unit (still to be filled) along with the Backlot Cinema and Diner. BACKLOT OPENED on 22 MARCH 2024! It’s since been taken over by Arc Cinema.
And Houndshill is open daily until 11pm, connecting Adelaide Street West to Coronation Street. This means there’s a direct route from the town centre to the cinema (more below).

Frasers, Flannels and Sports Direct
The new Frasers opened on Wednesday 22nd November 2023, along with Sports Direct and Flannels. It means the huge department store on three floors is now trading again at the heart of the town centre. Make sure you check out their extensive range of clothing, shoes, accessories, home, and sports items.

Your Guide to Houndshill Shopping Centre
Blackpool Houndshill Shopping Centre is just a stone’s throw from the seafront – right at the heart of the town centre – near to Blackpool Tower. Whether you’ve never been, or think you know it well, here’s our video guide to the shopping centre and everything inside!
Find it sandwiched between Blackpool Winter Gardens and Bank Hey Street (where the back door of Blackpool Tower is). In the next photo it’s the whole of the building along the left of shot. The sea is straight ahead!

Access to the Houndshill is from Victoria Street (above), Coronation Street Street (below). You can also go through Primark too at Bank Hey Street.

A big, pay on exit, multi-storey car park is incorporated into the complex. The car park is also open outside shopping hours – so you can park here and take in a show or have a meal.

Access to the car park once the stores and main malls have closed is via the side door. It’s at the right hand side of the external New Look entrance, opposite the Winter Gardens.

Car Park now Ticketless
No need to fumble for a ticket when you enter the car park – or remember where you put it when you leave! In March 2024 the car park went ticketless with the installation of new ANPR machines. Simply drive up to the barrier when you arrive and it collects your registration number.
Either visit the payment machine when you return to your car or pay at the exit gate – and now you don’t need a ticket. Just input your car registration number and it will automatically tell you how much you need to pay. Drive up to the barrier as you exit and hey-presto, the arm lifts without you doing anything else.
NEW Late Car Park Access for visitors to the Cinema and Diner!
Houndshill is now open daily until 11pm, connecting Adelaide Street West to Coronation Street. This means there’s a direct route from the town centre to Arc Cinema Blackpool. Making it easier for you to get to and from evening screenings – and a warm escape from the chilly nights. Stores within the centre will have their regular hours, please check with individual retailers.

Designed for your Comfort
Inside, the shopping is all on one flat level with even tiled floors, so it’s perfect for pushchairs and wheelchairs.

As you’d expect from a purpose built space, your comfort and convenience is the most important thing. There are comfortable seats where you can rest your feet while you plan your next shopping adventure. It’s ideal for anyone who isn’t too fit and healthy.
Upstairs (up the escalator or lift) you’ll find the public toilets.
It’s also a great place to visit when the weather is poor. With everything undercover you won’t get wet on rainy days. The modern, bright and light mall is perfect for passing an enjoyable afternoon – whatever the weather!
Houndshill Shops – High Street Names and Independent Traders
The indoor mall has over 60 units, and Houndshill shops feature high street names and independent traders. Frasers Group, including Sports Direct and Flannels, is now open in the former Debenhams, plus a huge Primark store, Next, River Island and many more.
