Fun at the Waterpark

Back in the summer of 2021, we went to see how the team safely reopened Sandcastle Waterpark Blackpool after the pandemic. At the media preview we saw the lengths they went to to give you a safe and enjoyable experience. Many of these post-covid changes are still in place today, because they made for a much better experience!

Our Blackpool Sandcastle waterpark vlog is an interesting guided tour from the door. See inside the changing rooms where £100k was spent on improving facilities and creating a new shower block. Take a walk around the pool side, where we get wet with the Sandcastle Master Blaster!

The Wildest, Wettest Water Slides!

With over 18 slides and attractions, in an 84 degree climate, it’s also the UK’s largest indoor waterpark! Complete with water slides, fun pools, wave machine, lazy river and water chutes. Whether you swim like a water baby or paddle like a duck there’s something to suit everyone. The place is huge!

Voted for by members of the public it shows that Blackpool Sandcastle water park is a business that wholeheartedly supports Changing Places. The initial investment was made in 2013 as part of the access for all programme. This facility has helped increase visits from disabled guests by 330%. As a resort, Blackpool has more Changing Place facilities than any other in the UK.

Disabled Friendly

Thousands of people need Changing Places facilities to enable them to get out and about and enjoy the day-to-day activities many of us take for granted. We want more and more visitors to Blackpool to know that our facility is here for them to use, not just guests of Sandcastle Waterpark. It’s open to anyone in and around the Blackpool area.

The facility includes a ceiling hoist, adult sized adjustable bench, peninsular toilet, adjustable wash basin and non slip floor amongst others.

The Changing Places Consortium launched its campaign in 2006 on behalf of the 1/4 of a million people who cannot use standard accessible toilets. This includes people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, as well as older people.

Gold Award for Blackpool Sandcastle Waterpark!

In 2023 Blackpool Sandcastle Waterpark is ONE of just TWO visitor attractions in the North West to receive a GOLD Award from VisitEngland.

In 2023 Blackpool Sandcastle Waterpark is ONE of just TWO visitor attractions in the North West to receive a GOLD Award from VisitEngland.

The prestigious VisitEngland Accolade was first introduced in 2014. The ONLY way to get one is if your business goes the extra mile to provide a quality visitor experience. Just 91 attractions across England secured the Award this year.

It recognises all aspects of the visitor experience, and is awarded in five categories. They are ‘Hidden Gem,’ ‘Best Told Story,’ ‘Quality Food and Drink’ and ‘Welcome’. Plus ‘Gold’ which is for all round top-scoring attractions.

An Outstanding Blackpool Attraction

Andrew Stokes is VisitEngland Director. He said: “These accolades are a testament to the outstanding experiences and customer service that attractions in England give visitors. They also recognise different aspects of the visitor experience with attractions who really go the extra mile. Whether it’s offering exceptional food and drink or magical storytelling. The attractions honoured this year go out of their way to make visits memorable. They create reasons for people to travel to new locations, also boosting local economies across England.”

Richard Halstead is Sandcastle Waterpark Senior Operations Manager. He said: “Receive the Gold Accolade from Visit England is amazing. The staff here are fully committed to providing Guest Service Excellence and Inclusion for all. This latest accolade is testimony to the hard work and commitment from our team. This assessment took place during one of the busiest trading periods of the year. That alone highlights the superb levels of consistency that our team strive to deliver every day for our guests.

Well done everyone!

Sprucing Up Sandcastle Waterpark

Winter-time is when all the Blackpool attractions are cleaned, repaired and improved and the Sandcastle Waterpark is no exception. And in February 2019 there was a large-scale winter spruce-up including essential works, maintenance and refurbishment.

With the pools drained, old floors taken up and new ones relaid. New boilers installed and major work to the roof. Then the entire Waterpark was cleaned and prepped in time for the new season.

A sad day for Blackpool ☹️

On 10 June 2022 the Sandcastle Waterpark waved goodbye to Managing Director John Child. He’d been at the helm for a whopping 25 years, having worked there for 36 – a whole career lifetime. John’s departure marked the start of a whole new chapter at this popular attraction, as it becomes part of the Merlin cluster.
