Look Inside the Winter Gardens
The Winter Gardens Blackpool reopened from Monday 17 May 2021. We went for a look behind the scenes a few days before re-opening, to see how preparations were going –
The popular Mazzei Café and The Old Victoria Bar are also open. The Old Victoria Bar, formally Gillow’s, features live entertainment throughout the day, a wide selection of drinks and serves classic pub food. Packages including Afternoon tea in the Mazzei Café are available to pre-book on the venue’s website.
Closed for more than 12-months, the Box Office counter service is also open again, allowing you to book in person. The box office at Victoria Street is open daily from 11am – 3pm.

Tony Hadley 40th Anniversary Tour: 27 May at 7pm
One of the most renowned voices in British music, Tony Hadley, has announced a huge UK tour for 2022, celebrating a remarkable 40 years in music.
Celebrating four decades since Tony first released music with his former band Spandau Ballet (originally planned for 2020), the tour, which will see Tony perform with his band ‘The Fabulous TH Band’, will call at 36 dates across the country, beginning on 1st March in Bexhill, and concluding at the Blackpool Opera House on 27th May.
Tony’s unmistakable voice still brims with passion and urgency as it first did all those years ago. Fitting for what will be a big celebration of one of the biggest voices in pop, Tony will perform tracks from across his career both as the voice of Spandau Ballet, and as a solo artist.

A brand new production of The Cher Show, with book by Tony and Olivier Award-winning Rick Elice (Jersey Boys, The Addams Family, Peter and the Starcatcher), direction by Arlene Phillips (Saturday Night Fever, Starlight Express, Grease), choreography by Oti Mabuse (two-time Strictly Come Dancing champion) and costume design by Gabriella Slade (Six, In The Heights, Spice World 2019 Tour).

Miss Dance and Dance Master of Great Britain – 12 June
The final of the prestigious International Dance Teachers Association competition to award the titles of Miss Dance and Dance Master of Great Britain.
Competitors dancing in this final will have qualified by winning their regional heat. There will be over 75 dancers performing on the day.
This is an opportunity for these young hopefuls to show their potential professional skills. Many past winners and finalists have made their mark in professional theatre assisted by the opportunity that this competition has given them.
Blackpool International Soul Festival 5: 17-19 June 2022
A stunning, once in a lifetime line-up of world-renowned Northern Soul and Motown artists. It’s the North West’s biggest International Soul Festival. Over the three days, an array of exclusive American Northern and Modern Soul legends take to the stage.
All be supported by Musical Director Snake Davis and band The Suspicions. Many of the songs have never been seen live since they were originally recorded in the studio. It’s sure to be a real treat for Soul enthusiasts.

Blackpool Symphony Orchestra: By the Sea – 2 July 7pm
Blackpool Symphony Orchestra was formed in 1921 and has been entertaining the people of the Fylde Coast for over 100 years. Their centenary celebrations had to be postponed due to the Covid 19 pandemic but they have returned stronger than ever with a varied year of concerts in prestigious venues across the area. They are delighted to be joined at this, the finale of their centenary+1 season, by international soloist Alexandra Stemp who will play one of the most popular pieces in the violin repertoire, Mendelssohn’s violin concerto. Alexandra was born and raised in Blackpool before leaving to play with many of the major orchestras in this country and abroad but she is thrilled to be back in her hometown this evening.
Bat Out of Hell – the Musical. 5 -9 July 2022

THE REUNION features some of the most celebrated alumni of Burn the Floor including Strictly Come Dancing’s Aljaž Škorjanec, Kevin Clifton, Janette Manrara, Karen Hauer, Dianne Buswell, Jo-anne Clifton, Luba Mushtuk, Kai Widdrington and Robin Windsor.
A breathtaking blend of Latin and Ballroom dance first conceived as a special performance at Sir Elton John’s 50th birthday celebration in 1997. Two years in creation, the show made its world premiere in the UK and took the globe by storm.

The acclaimed new London Palladium production of Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is set for Blackpool in 2022. Direct from two triumphant seasons at The London Palladium, it’s the sensational brand-new production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s show.
LINZI HATELEY, Joseph’s original, Olivier Award-Nominated Narrator will be reunited with Jason Donovan in the role of Pharaoh. Jac Yarrow will wear the Dreamcoat, following his critically acclaimed professional stage debut in the iconic lead role.
Audiences and critics were unanimous in their acclaim for the legendary musical – the first major collaboration by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber – when it returned to the London Palladium in 2019 and again in 2021.
Told entirely through song with the help of the Narrator, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat follows the story of Jacob’s favourite son Joseph and his eleven brothers. After being sold into hardship by the brothers, he ingratiates himself with Egyptian noble Potiphar, but ends up in jail after refusing the advances of Potiphar’s wife. While imprisoned, Joseph discovers his ability to interpret dreams, and he soon finds himself in front of the mighty but troubled showman, the Pharaoh. As Joseph strives to resolve Egypt’s famine, he becomes Pharaoh’s right-hand man and eventually reunites with his family.

Rebellion – 4-7 August
REBELLION returns to the Winter Gardens in 2022! After such a long wait, the largest independent punk festival in the UK will take over the the Winter Gardens from 4 – 7th August 2022.
Tickets purchased for the original date in 2020 and rescheduled date in 2021 remain valid for the festival in 2022.

The British Country Music Festival 2022 – 2-4 September
Now in its third year, The British Country Music Festival (TBCMF) will take place at the indoor, Winter Gardens entertainment complex in Blackpool from 2nd to 4th September 2022. With four stages in the venue, the event was launched in 2019 to provide a platform for grass roots artists to perform alongside established, singer-songwriters of country music, Americana, folk, roots and all the various sub genres. This year the festival is expecting record ticket sales with the announcement that Ivor Novello Songwriter of The Year 2014 and BRIT’s Critics Choice Award winner Tom Odell will be the main Saturday night headliner. Tom has had four top five albums including massive number one Long Way Down, and Jubilee Road which was inspired by the terraced streets in which he grew up. He is due to release his fifth studio album later this year.”

You’ll see all your favourite characters beautifully brought to life with full-size costumes, magical puppets, and enchanting music. This show lasts just under an hour and your little ones will be amazed when they see a very special visit from the amazing flying Pinky Ponk.
Midnight Train to Georgia – 11 Sept at 7pm
Born in Georgia in 1944, the iconic Gladys Knight began singing with her siblings at age 8. The group opened for many R&B legends in the 1950s before heading to Motown.
In 1996, Gladys Knight & the Pips were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in 2007, Gladys Knight received the Society of Singers ELLA Award at which time she was declared the ‘Empress of Soul’ and is currently listed on Rolling Stone’s list of the Greatest Singers of All Time.
Capturing the essence of the Multi Award Winning Ms Gladys Knight, Hayley Ria Christian emulates the true magic that the Empress of Soul delivers on stage.
Ru Pauls Drag Race UK: The Official Series 3 Tour – 14 Sept at 7pm
Drag Royalty will sashay* across the UK next autumn for The Series Three Tour of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.
Visiting theatres and arenas across England, Scotland and Wales, expect a night of endless extravaganza as ALL 12 queens from Series Three of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK werk their way across the country.
And audiences in Blackpool can witness the Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve and Talent of their favourite queens LIVE on stage as the tour includes a date at the Opera House on Wednesday September 14.
Giants of Soul – 27 September at 7.30pm
Giants of Soul will feature some of the most successful and iconic, original soul performers from the late 70’s through to the modern day. Collectively our artists boast over 5 million followers on Spotify, with 18 UK top ten hits and 47 top forty hits. Award winning Angie Greaves from Smooth Radio is the host for the show.
Over three hours of nonstop hits. The show is backed by an all-star ten-piece band, featuring some of the best musicians from the UK and USA.
Jason Manford – Like Me – 29 Sept at 7.30pm
He’s back! It’s been a busy few years for Jason since his last smash-hit stand up show but fans of his Absolute Radio show will know this nationally acclaimed comedian hasn’t changed a bit. ‘Like Me’ is Jason’s latest comic offering set to hit the road, and is sure to be ‘expert observational comedy’ (The Guardian) mixed with ‘comic gold’ (Mail on Sunday).
And Finally… Phil Collins – 30 Sept at 7.30pm
For over 30 years, Phil Collins has written a diverse range of songs that have defined generations.
And Finally…Phil Collins are credited as being the UK’s Top Phil Collins Tribute, fronted by singer Chris O’Connell who brings to the stage the charisma and characteristics of the man who fronted Genesis and has sold 150 million albums in his solo career.
This production delivers a two hour high energy show packed full of Phil’s solo hits including ‘In The Air Tonight’, ‘Another Day In Paradise’ and ‘Sussudio’ along with a sprinkling of Genesis hits for good measure. Featuring some of the country’s top touring musicians, two drums kits and the esteemed ’And Finally Horns’.

Collabro returns to the Opera House: 10 December 2022

This huge and magnificent building has 11 main separate spaces over two floors. The variety of events the Winter Gardens has to offer means there’s always something on offer for locals and visitors to the resort.

The Opera House
New, upcoming bands have played in the Opera House including the like of Little Mix. Old favourites, such as Jane McDonald and Daniel O’Donnell continue to return. Some of the world’s best bands, including Canada’s Arcade Fire, who selected the Winter Gardens as only one of three venues to play in the UK.
The Empress Ballroom
The magnificent Empress Ballroom is just as comfortable staging the World Dance Championships each year as it is hosting some of the world’s best rock and pop acts in concert.

The Winter Gardens is an incredible building with a long history. It first opened on 11 July 1878 and since then has grown and developed as an entertainment complex which mirrors the growth of the seaside town of Blackpool.
In the centre of the complex, in what’s now the coffee shop, you can see the original building around which the whole of the Winter Gardens was built.
A Perfect Venue for your Event
The Winter Gardens offers a wide variety of venues for events ranging from small private business lunches to large scale conferences.
You can also hold your wedding at the Winter Gardens. What could be better than a reception or banquet in the recently refurbished Derham Room? (below).
The main rooms include the 2,900 capacity Opera House (the largest theatre stage outside London), the grand Empress Ballroom with a capacity of 3,250 people for concerts, and the 2,600 sq metre Olympia Exhibition Hall.
Always designed to be temporary, the doors finally closed on Sunday 29 October 2017.
